What is fard in islam?
Fard is something that has been commanded in Islam with certainty. An example for this is the verse, “And establish prayer and give zakah” (al-Baqara, 2: 43). According to this verse, all mukallaf Muslims must perform the five daily prayers and pay the zakat.
Types of fard acts
Majority of Muslim jurists employ the term “wajib” in the meaning of “fard”. They divide the obligatory (fard) actions into two categories in terms of whether its fulfillment is individual or communal responsibility.
- Fard ‘Ayni (Wajib ‘Ayni): This is the type of wajib required by Allah, the Almighty, from each and every mukallaf. For example, five daily prayers, paying zakat, fasting in the month of Ramadan etc.
