According to Jabir (ra), the Prophet (saw) was asked, “Is it obligatory to perform the minor pilgrimage (ʿUmra)?” He said, “No. But if you perform the ‘Umra, it is more virtuous (than quitting it).” (al-Tirmidhi, al-Hajj, 88)
According to Abu Hurayra (ra), the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “(The performance of) the minor pilgrimage (ʿUmra) is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of an approved pilgrimage (Hajj) is nothing except Paradise.” (al-Bukhari, al-ʿUmra, 1; Muslim, al-Hajj, 437)
According to Umm Maʿqil (ra), the Prophet (saw) said, “ʿUmra during Ramadan is equal to the Hajj (with regard to the reward).” (al-Tirmidhi, al-Hajj, 95)
