According to ʿAʾisha (ra), the wife of our Prophet (saw), the Prophet (saw) used to go into retreat (‘itikaf) during the last ten days of Ramadan until Allah made him pass away. (al-Bukhari, al-Iʿtikaf, 1)
ʿAʾisha (ra) said, “The Messenger of Allah (saw) was careful to carry out (acts of worship) during the last ten days of Ramadan that which he did not at other times.” (Muslim, al-Iʿtikaf, 8)
ʿAʾisha (ra) said, “The Messenger of Allah (saw) used to say, ‘Look for the Night of al-Qadr in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan.’” (al-Bukhari, Fadl laylat al-qadr, 3)
According to Ibn ʿAbbas not, the Messenger of Allah (saw) said about one who went into retreat, “He is refraining from sin and he will be given a reward like that of one who does all kinds of good deeds.” (Ibn Maja, al-Siyam, 67)
