Is it permissible for spouses to have sexual intercourse on the nights of Ramadan?

Fasting means to abstain from eating, drinking and having sexual intercourse from imsak time (fajr al-sadiq) to sunset with the intention of worshiping. This is to say that fasting is observed during daytime. There is no prohibition for eating, drinking, and having sexual intercourse on the nights of Ramadan. In other words, it is permissible to eat, drink, and, for spouses, to have sexual intercourse between iftar time and imsak time. In this respect, it is stated in the Holy Qur’an, “So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you.” (Baqarah, 2/187)
